Studies show that early access to reading and literacy contributes to lifelong success. Library Storytime provides a fun and interactive way to engage our youngest patrons in the joy of reading, while also giving parents and caregivers tools they can use at home every day to encourage literacy development.

The Storytime Assistant is a volunteer position for those interested in supporting the library’s mission to promote early literacy. The Assistant helps the librarian set up, greets patrons at the door and helps them settle in for the session, and distributes props and toys. During Storytime, the Assistant models positive listening skills, sings the songs and actively participates in the rhymes, fingerplays and stories that help develop strong readers. After the session, the Assistant helps clean up the toys and the event space so everything is ready for the next session. Must be able to bend and twist, pick up toys and move furniture on casters. Punctuality and dependability required.

Time commitment: Tuesdays, from 10:15 am to 12:15 pm, Bethany Library Annex
