Jonas’s world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community.  When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training from the Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now it’s time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

The Giver was an incredible read.  Even as a re-read, it astounded and interested me through every page.  The intricate story with all of its ideas and contents is an intriguing look into what the world would be like without the human aspect of humans.  Additionally, the focus upon their past,(our present) from a perspective without bias, makes the ideas even more interesting.  I would recommend this to people who like Sci-fi books, as well as people who are interested in the way that the world works from a social sciences perspective.  This book truly deserved its Newbery Medal.
