Elise Dutton is not looking forward to another holiday season. Her husband cheated on her with her best friend a few years ago, following an embittered divorce that left her dispirited, heartbroken, and alone. Out of the blue in November, a man approached her in the mall food court with an idea. For the following eight weeks until the night of December 24, the man suggests they pose as a couple. He drafts a contract with a few rules: No deep or probing personal questions, no drama, no telling the truth about their relationship to anyone, and it will be void on Christmas Day. Elise astonishes herself by accepting this contract, The Mistletoe Promise. As the weeks went on, the fake relationship started healing her heart and made her smile after a very long time. Yet, just as she starts enjoying the relationship, her enduring, traumatic secret starts creeping back into her life, trying to destroy her emerging relationship. However, Elise might not be the only person with secrets. Will Elise finally open her heart into this new relationship? Or will it be shattered by the wall of secrets?

The Mistletoe Promise, written by Richard Paul Evans is a beautifully written story about two people joining forces during the holidays. This book was very amusing because the way the author structured it as a diary format and brought in the twist in their relationship was very engaging. I would rate this book a definite 5/5 stars and recommend this book to ages 14+. This book won the American Mothers Book Award, the Romantic Times Best Women’s Novel of the Year Award, and the German Audience Gold Award for Romance award.
