Ever since his father died at the hand of an Epic when he was eight, David has wanted to join the Reckoners: an underground organization, set on killing all Epics and ending tyranny. David has been studying Epics all his life in the city of Newcago, both their weaknesses and their abilities. David worked at a factory school that manufactured weapons. Here he was able to go to school, learn how to shoot a gun and get fed. Newcago is ruled by a ruthless Epic named Steelheart and using his power he turned  the entire city into steel years ago. Coupled with the power of Nightwielder, the city lives in perpetual darkness. Even though it’s named Steelheart, this story is about David and his desire to join the Reckoners, avenge his father’s death, and free the city.

Steelheart was enjoyable and I had the opportunity to listen to it on Audible. It is about 12 hours long, and once I got started, I listeneSd to it everywhere I went. Something I loved about this book was it was fast paced and action packed. I would recommend this book to a middle school / high school level audience who likes Brandon Sanderson, or is just looking for an exciting book to read. This is the first in a trilogy and the following books are Firefight and Calamity. It’s also an OBOB book this year for 6-8 Division.
