Volunteer
Volunteers started this library in 1974 and volunteers sustain it today. Share YOUR talent!
Volunteers contribute to the vitality of the library in many ways:
- Sorting and shelving materials at both library locations
- Supporting staff at library events and classes for patrons of all ages
- Serving on the library association’s Board of Directors
- Processing clothing and housewares donations or cashiering at Second Edition Resale Shop
- Consulting on Teen events and collections for the Teen Library Council (6-12th grade)

Frequently Asked Questions
How old do I need to be to volunteer?
The minimum age is 14, except for Teen Library Council (6-12th grade).
What time commitment is expected of volunteers?
Most positions require a 2-3 hour shift once a week for at least six months. Due to the use of shared space and equipment, volunteers work a regularly-scheduled shift. We don’t have drop-in volunteering.
Can I do my School Community Service requirements at the library?
Many students fulfill school requirements by volunteering with us. Students are expected to:
- Fulfill their weekly commitment to a volunteer post for at least six months
- Fill out a volunteer application, interview and attend volunteer orientation if accepted
- Take responsibility for all documentation and deadlines needed for school
How long does it take before I can start volunteering?
Please allow up to two weeks for application processing and review. Applicants who pass the review will be contacted via email for an in-person interview. Orientation and training are scheduled after a volunteer has been accepted.
