Are you passionate about early literacy development in young children? Do you know and love children’s picture books? Would you enjoy managing a team comprised of volunteers and staff to bring early literacy knowledge and books to our child care community? The Cedar Mill and Bethany Community Libraries are searching for an enthusiastic leader to manage our well-established early literacy focused, outreach program and to collaborate with community partners to support early literacy development in our growing, diverse community.

About Us

Cedar Mill & Bethany Community Libraries serve the unincorporated communities of Washington County, less than 10 miles from downtown Portland. Our libraries are members of the Washington County Cooperative Library Service (WCCLS) that provides funding, technology, courier, and other vital support.

Our libraries are much-loved community assets, started by volunteers, who remain essential to the function of the library. Service to youth is a top priority, particularly for the youngest of our community who are developing early foundation for later independent reading. The library has a strong outreach effort that includes book deliveries to about 50 child care sites, and partnerships with local schools and social service agencies.

About You

You know and love young children and children’s books, and yearn to share that expertise and enthusiasm with people who care for preschoolers, toddlers, and babies. As a manager and leader, you are skillful at training, giving feedback, soliciting input, and ensuring that each individual feels valued and appreciated. You enjoy making connections with people, building relationships, and looking for opportunities to collaborate.

Salary is based on qualifications; range starts at $ 4,800 per month. Kaiser Health insurance, including Vision, Dental insurance, Life and Disability insurance, and Health and Child care Flexible Spending Account provided for employee. Library contributes to a 403b retirement plan after 1 year but employees may contribute sooner. The position is full time and is based at the main Cedar Mill Library.
