child laughingMany parents visit the library hoping to find books that not only engage and entertain their child, but also keep them interested in reading more over the summer vacation.  Navigating the library shelves to find a perfect fit can be challenging, especially given the many choices, time constraints, and varying abilities and interests for each child.

According to research by Scholastic “4 in 10 kids agree (42%) that they have trouble finding books that they like. This is far higher at 59% among infrequent readers and is true of roughly half of kids by age nine…Nearly 1 in 3 parents (28%) agree that their child has trouble finding books. This percentage increases among parents of infrequent readers and among parents of children older than age eight” (Scholastic). Youth librarians recommend books based on factors like age and developmental stage, grade level, popularity, and what will interest each unique reader. We love helping kids find their next favorite book!
