Books at a student’s Independent Reading Level (IRLA) should be fun, fast and easy.  When kids spend most of their time reading books like this, their comprehension, fluency and reading confidence increases. Young readers understand and enjoy reading the most when they are engaged with the content, not struggling with text.  BSD encourages students to do most of their reading around their IRLA level, however, the ultimate goal is true engagement in reading.
