Kids Booklists

Our local schools use several different assessments to determine a child’s reading level.

Books at a student’s independent reading level should be fun, fast, and easy. When kids spend most of their time reading books like this, their comprehension, fluency, and reading confidence increase. Young readers understand and enjoy reading most when they are engaged with the content, not struggling with text. Although schools encourage students to do most of their reading around their level, the ultimate goal is true engagement in reading. 

The booklists below are based on IRLA (Independent Reading Level Assessment), which is used in some Beaverton School District schools.
