Although the average size of new homes in the United States continues to increase, there is a growing movement of people who are ready to simplify their lifestyle. Living in a tiny house (anything under 400 square feet) allows many people to save money on housing and utility costs and focus on what’s really important to them.
My favorite book about this is The Big Tiny: A Built-It-Myself Memoir by Dee Williams. She built her own 84-square-foot house in Portland, and now lives in it in Olympia.
I also enjoyed the documentary Tiny: A Story About Living Small, which focuses on the challenges of building your own tiny house.
