Parlor Games is the delightful debut novel of local author Maryka Biaggio. The story opens in 1917 with the cunning protagonist, May Dugas, standing trial for extortion. As the trial unfolds, May tells her version of events.
Based on a true story, Parlor Games is a sweeping historical novel about a beautiful con artist whose turn-of-the-century escapades take her around the world as she's doggedly pursued by a Pinkerton Agency detective. Dubbed the “Most Dangerous Woman,” the Pinkertons branded May as a crafty blackmailer and ruthless seductress. For many, however, she was the most glamorous woman to grace high society. Was the real May Dugas a cold-hearted swindler or simply a resourceful provider for her poor family?
Maryka will read from Parlor Games and share her experiences as a writer, a reader, and a member of the Cedar Mill community. This program is free and will be held in the Cedar Mill Library’s upstairs community room. The evening will include 2 prize drawings for a free, autographed copy of Parlor Games!
