Libraries, reading and learning have been a big part of Peter’s life since joining the “Look it Up” club at Thomas Jefferson elementary school in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He reads mostly nonfiction, but admits to reading post-apocalyptic fiction. A graduate of Bucknell University and the University of Pittsburgh, he managed libraries in Pennsylvania prior to moving to Cedar Mill in 1996. When not working or reading, Peter enjoys hiking and exploring nature.

Lynne was born in Portland and grew up in small towns along the mighty Columbia River. After earning her MLS from the University of Washington in 1992, she was hired by Cedar Mill Community Library as its first Head of Adult Services. Lynne is an enthusiastic life-long learner and consequently has a personal reading list far longer than any mortal could ever accomplish. Outside the library, Lynne loves traveling, gardening, long walks, and curling up by the fire with a good book and her feline familiars, Gilbert and Sullivan.

Working at Cedar Mill over 25 years, Nancy has seen the library, community, families, and kids grow and change. But connecting kids and reading has stayed the most fun thing under the sun. Nancy had a hard time learning how to read (she’s dyslexic) – but once the reading kicked in, she never stopped. Her favorite books as a girl were The Borrowers and The Witch of Blackbird Pond. Her “secret super power” is – she’s not afraid of spiders or snakes.

Shannon grew up many places including Kentucky, Virginia, and Colorado. Her favorite activities as a child included skiing, ice skating, reading and helping animals in any way she could. She went onto study biology and elementary education at the University of Colorado in Boulder where she met her husband. In 2005 Shannon and her husband, plus their two kids, three dogs, and one very furry cat, moved to Portland to be closer to family. Shannon still enjoys reading, outdoor sports and volunteering for Basenji Rescue and Transport. Only now, she can add watching her kids play lacrosse a few days a week to things she loves to do.

Marianne was born in Oregon and spent most of her childhood in Beaverton. She is a graduate of the University of Oregon and, before choosing to become a librarian, spent over 15 years in advertising. Some of her favorite books growing up were Nothing At All, What the Witch Left, The Wednesday Witch and The Chronicles of Prydain series. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids and loves sneaking in episodes of her favorite TV series late at night.

Lori has worked in libraries since 2001. Her favorite childhood books were both by Roald Dahl… James and the Giant Peach and The BFG. As a grown-up she enjoys unusual cookbooks, werewolves, and a lot of nonfiction. In the Technical Services department, Lori works with a fantastic, creative team to make Cedar Mill’s collections accessible to our patrons through acquisitions, cataloging, and maintenance. When not at the library, she can be found painting or making things, weeding her community garden patch, or at the park with her son.

An avid reader since the age of 5, Gweyn did not have access to a public library until the Casa View Branch of the Dallas Public Library system opened when she was in fourth grade. During the opening ceremony, the library director challenged the children to check out every book in the library! Gweyn came away with a nonfiction tale of adventure about the Lewis and Clark expedition. A goal since girlhood, Gweyn relocated to Oregon 25 years ago. Now that her kids are grown, she enjoys spending as much time as possible in the great outdoors with her terrier, Josie. When not outdoors, Gweyn enjoys listening to a varied mix of audio books as she knits or works jigsaw puzzles. Gweyn has a BBA in Accounting from The University of Texas at Arlington and an MBA from Marylhurst University.

Jen was born in Massachusetts. A child of teachers, Jen has always loved reading: novels, cookbooks, the New York Times. She graduated from Amherst College and worked in television until a teaching job took her to Tokyo, where she met her husband and started a family. They moved to Portland, where Jen found Cedar Mill Library. She volunteered for many years before joining the staff. Jen is inspired and touched by the many things volunteers do to make the library flourish.

Becky has been working in libraries (both public and academic) since 1999, and has done everything from driving the bookmobile to managing the ILS and everything in between. She is active in helping animals, hiking, biking, gardening (certified Oregon Master Gardener), learning Spanish, and cooking and eating awesome vegan food.

Donna grew up on the east coast but has made her home in Oregon for more than thirty years, with children and now grandchildren, who are native born Oregonians. She graduated from Portland State University and later earned her MLIS from the University of Arizona. Donna loves all literary fiction, including the best dystopian novels. When she can pull herself out of a book during her leisure time, she enjoys drawing and painting.

Kent is a native of Indiana, but has spent most of his life since 1991 in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. After earning an Electrical Engineering degree from Purdue University and working in technology, a circuitous career path led to an MLS from Indiana University in 2007. Kent is an avid reader who enjoys nonfiction, as well as literary fiction and thrillers. When not behind a reference desk, he can be found cycling, hiking, and enjoying his collection of six guitars and four accordions.

She has read The Great Gatsby three times. Laura is originally from New Mexico, and sometimes misses the sunshine. She embraces any opportunity to speak French or eat snacks.

Laura’s default genre is SF/fantasy, but she reads widely outside of that as well. The ridiculously fun parts of her job are creating Discovery Kits, ordering Board Games, researching genre booklists, and answering Handpicked Books questions. Rob was born in Portland, raised in Washington, and has returned to Oregon to meet your library needs. He typically reads science fiction, fantasy and horror.  He also enjoys board games, role playing, and being an old-fashioned D&D nerd with a creative writing degree from Pacific University and a master’s degree in library science from San Jose State. His favorite books include The Dresden Files, The Expanse series, NOS4A2, and Wuthering Heights.

Jenny grew up in Idaho where she loved climbing trees and building houses for tiny stuffed animals. Favorite books were the Chronicles of Narnia and the Dark is Rising series. Jenny loves managing the picture book collection. She tells families to never stop reading picture books- they are for EVERYONE! She enjoys doing Babytime and Evening Family Fun. Favorite books now include: Mr. Maxwell’s Mouse, Weslandia, Star Wars Last of the Jedi series and Jeff Smith's Bone series.

Jody runs BookShare, the library’s early literacy outreach program that delivers books and storytimes to preschool children in child care sites in the Cedar Mill area. Being a children’s librarian combines Jody’s two greatest loves – children and books! As a youngster, Jody always had her nose in a book – and she still does-when she isn’t playing in the ocean, or hiking in the mountains with her husband and their Australian Shepherd, Kaiya.

She loves presenting storytimes, coordinating Cedar Mill's "Read to the Dogs" program, and managing the library's AV collections.

Marta grew up in Poland where she worked with high school students as a librarian. Since she moved to the U.S., she enjoys working with babies and preschoolers even more. Marta takes care of the library fish and loves seeing young kids “reading” to them! She orders chapter books, graphic novels and games for the young readers in our community. Marta’s favorite place in Oregon: Crater Lake! Her secret wish: time travel!

Teresa has been a children’s librarian for almost 20 years and she considers herself very lucky to be doing what she loves the most; reading books to children. Teresa’s favorite childhood book is James and the Giant Peach. Favorite authors include Mo Willems, Rosemary Wells and Leslie Patricelli. Teresa is knowledgeable about all things toddler, thanks to her experience with Twos Together storytime. She and Buzzy Bee can be found together every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Born and raised in Northwest Florida, Caty left the beautiful beaches of her hometown for Portland two years ago to seek adventure. She enjoys all manner of literary genres such as sci-fi and fantasy, magical realism, comics, and manga. She also watches cartoons and anime with delighted abandon and has a blast playing electronic RPGs when she finds the time. She is immensely proud of the library’s board game collection, which she helps to process.

Born in the suburban wilds of Dallas, Texas but raised in Beaverton, Patrick rapidly lost the accent but still loves the barbecue. Armed with a BA in English from Portland State University and a love of putting things on shelves, Patrick is jam-packed with movie and TV trivia and a compulsion to share it. He adores the cinema and science fiction in equal measure but is just as happy with a dog-eared paperback of Sense and Sensibility or anything by Italo Calvino.

Dawn coordinates the monthly Song Circle at the Cedar Mill Library and the monthly Beaverton Ukulele Club jam session at the Beaverton Community Center. Dawn also volunteers in the Oregon Food Bank's Westside garden, helps with set painting and construction for the Beaverton Civic Theatre, and helps at Circus Project and Experience Theatre Project events. Dawn enjoys reading, leading hikes, and is a Westernaires Line Dancer.

Now that her kids are grown, she enjoys spending as much time as possible in the great outdoors with her terrier, Josie. When not outdoors, Gweyn enjoys listening to a varied mix of audio books as she knits or works jigsaw puzzles. Gweyn has a BBA in Accounting from The University of Texas at Arlington and an MBA from Marylhurst University.

Jen was born in Massachusetts. A child of teachers, Jen has always loved reading: novels, cookbooks, the New York Times. She graduated from Amherst College and worked in television until a teaching job took her to Tokyo, where she met her husband and started a family. They moved to Portland, where Jen found Cedar Mill Library. She volunteered for many years before joining the staff. Jen is inspired and touched by the many things volunteers do to make the library flourish.

Dawn coordinates the monthly Song Circle at the Cedar Mill Library and the monthly Beaverton Ukulele Club jam session at the Beaverton Community Center. Dawn also volunteers in the Oregon Food Bank's Westside garden, helps with set painting and construction for the Beaverton Civic Theatre, and helps at Circus Project and Experience Theatre Project events. Dawn enjoys reading, leading hikes, and is a Westernaires Line Dancer.

Jenny grew up in Idaho where she loved climbing trees and building houses for tiny stuffed animals. Favorite books were the Chronicles of Narnia and the Dark is Rising series. Jenny loves managing the picture book collection. She tells families to never stop reading picture books- they are for EVERYONE! She enjoys doing Babytime and Evening Family Fun. Favorite books now include: Mr. Maxwell’s Mouse, Weslandia, Star Wars Last of the Jedi series and Jeff Smith's Bone series.

Jody runs BookShare, the library’s early literacy outreach program that delivers books and storytimes to preschool children in child care sites in the Cedar Mill area. Being a children’s librarian combines Jody’s two greatest loves – children and books! As a youngster, Jody always had her nose in a book – and she still does-when she isn’t playing in the ocean, or hiking in the mountains with her husband and their Australian Shepherd, Kaiya.

After earning an Electrical Engineering degree from Purdue University and working in technology, a circuitous career path led to an MLS from Indiana University in 2007. Kent is an avid reader who enjoys nonfiction, as well as literary fiction and thrillers. When not behind a reference desk, he can be found cycling, hiking, and enjoying his collection of six guitars and four accordions.

Mark is a native Oregonian. Teresa has been a children’s librarian for almost 20 years and she considers herself very lucky to be doing what she loves the most; reading books to children. Born and raised in Northwest Florida, Caty left the beautiful beaches of her hometown for Portland two years ago to seek adventure. She also watches cartoons and anime with delighted abandon and has a blast playing electronic RPGs when she finds the time. She is immensely proud of the library’s board game collection, which she helps to process.
